We're recruiting a new member to join our Collective
Closing date for applications 10am, Monday 13th October 2014, interviews 2nd half October
We're looking for someone who can commit to working 8-20 hours a week for £8.00 per hour - we’re not in it for the money!
We don’t want an employee who just turns up does the work and goes home.
We want someone who thinks that what Footprint does is great and wants to join the co-op, become a director and take an equal share of all the responsibilities of running the Co-op. We also want people who are looking for a long-term commitment, as it takes at least a year to get up to speed.
No experience at printing, design or web skills is necessary, but there are other essential qualities and skills in a good co-op member*.
Well organised and able to follow procedures: Because we often work at different times, following procedures and filling in paperwork is crucial to enable someone else to carry on from where you left off.
Decent communication skills: It helps to be able to explain clearly what you're working on, how you're feeling and what you're going to be able to do and take on board that information from other people. And to be nice to the customers even if you're not in a good mood and to try and understand them, even when they make no sense.
Computer Literate: Most Footprint work involves sitting in front of a computer. You’ll be using Excel, Access, distilling Acrobat PDF’s, etc. Knowlege of desktop publishing (Adobe Indesign, MS Publisher) and graphics packages (Photoshop, Illustrator) would be a great advantage. Experience of webdesign, webhosting and the Joomla CMS in particular would be useful.
Numerate: You will learn to quote for jobs, which calls for a reasonably high level of numeracy. The quoting spreadsheets can be daunting to look at, so spreadsheets full of figures must not phase you.
Open, conscientious and easy-going: The thing about printing and accounting is that it really matters if you go wrong, so it’s important that you take care with your work and admit where you may have messed up so we can get to the bottom of problems quickly. Attention to detail is crucial. Plus we have to all get on really well or it just won’t work.
Involved in changing the status quo: Challenging oppression in any of its forms, generally doing stuff with the rest of your time which is more worthwhile than being a Footprint wage slave. Footprint is a member of the Radical Routes federation of co-ops working for social change, which means that each of us commits to going to gatherings and helping out with RR in our own time - more info: www.radicalroutes.org.uk
Other useful attributes and skills thus far not mentioned include:
Good with cantankerous machines and good problem-solving abilities.
An active political imagination.
A fairly green approach to life.
Enthusiasm for accounts, cashflow forecasting and business planning.
